Home Solar. Democratising clean energy.

We want to empower as many people as possible to produce and use clean energy and play a part in creating a better future for the planet. Learn more about how far we’ve come on our journey.

Making clean energy affordable and available to as many as possible is our way of democratising clean energy. The energy people use at home makes up a large part of their individual climate footprint. It’s also a big chunk of each household’s monthly bills. Solar energy is a renewable, non-pollutant energy source, and after the initial investment, it’s free.

To create a clean energy movement we are collaborating with various business partners in the energy field. We’ve already made good progress. In 2015, IKEA Home Solar was launched by the IKEA Retail business of Ingka Group, the IKEA franchisee in many markets. Today Home Solar is offered to customers in seven markets. By 2025, the aim is to make it available across 30 markets.

We want to be part of creating a clean energy movement in society.

We hope to broaden the offer with more energy solutions, as well as services and the markets where we sell it. For example, in 2018 the Ingka Group ran a pilot in the United Kingdom in partnership with Big Clean Switch. This led to 5,500 IKEA customers switching to clean energy over a six-week period. The next step we’re currently rolling out is to add services and benefits, such as energy storage. By storing their excess power rather than exporting it to the grid, people can save even more money on their energy bills. Making life at home more sustainable should be a possibility for everyone, and should not depend on the size of their wallet.
